In Romania, there is a tradition on the 1st of March through which we celebrate spring. Boys give girls little gifts, like the one in the picture, small things related or not to spring that are supposed to bring good luck to the ones that wear them: four leafed clovers, ladybugs, flowers, horseshoes, chimney sweepers etc.
